Celebrating Our Lady of the Rosary Feast Day

Students at Archangel Gabriel Catholic School in Robinson pray below a balloon rosary that could be seen for miles.

What a sight in the sky near near Archangel Gabriel Catholic School in Robinson earlier today! Students and teachers were outside, praying below a balloon rosary to celebrate the annual feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary.  Many diocesan schools and parishes are praying to commemorate the day.

The celebration of the feast day goes back to 1573, when Pope Saint Pius V established it to thank God for a victory over a Turkish military invasion of Europe. He attributed the victory to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Today, we are reminded that Our Lady’s prayers can overpower the mightiest of forces against us.

Pope Francis has called on the entire world to pray the rosary during the COVID-19 pandemic; asking for an end to the global heath crisis. This powerful prayer also helps us develop a stronger relationship with God through meditating on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
